Immigration Act 2016 becomes Law

The Immigration Act 2016 became part of the law of the land (i.e. it received Royal Assent) on 12 May 2016. Following on from Immigration Act 2014, it:

  1. makes it easier for private landlords to evict illegal migrant tenants

  2. creates a new criminal offence for rogue landlords, dishonest landlords and agents who exploit migrants and repeatedly fail to carry out right to rent checks
